The love of my life

My heart goes fookin' pitter-pat.

I was commenting to Siobhan about how there's a lot of analysis of the business of television -- about what constitutes "content" and what constitutes "fill" and what the product of television is -- that seems to be mostly ignored in the conversation about yesterday's strike.

The product of television? That's easy if you observe the universal rule: follow the money.

Who pays TV's bills? Advertisers.
What are the advertisers buying, then? Views. Viewers. Interested eyeballs.
What is the product of television? You are.

It's interesting how they're able to sneak stuff past people by calling us "consumers".

I came across one poster on a friend's journal loudly touting the futility of that action by the fact that he (and/or friends) had organised extra posts on http://community.livejournal.com/statements - the postings for the 21st went from an average of 1700 to over 11,000 - and how that would effectively cancel the strike.

Think they missed the point entirely.
