got mine plucked out of the back of my head in february. actually, it wasn't so much grey as pure white, follicle and everything. FUCKING YIKES, and just when i was getting used to my natural colour and kind of liking it (i have a ginger patch at the front i discovered!).

the other day i inspected the top of my head and found five more, all curly and only about two and a half inches long. i am in denial.

*First* grey hair? I'm envious. I've had them for years. That's why I love hair dye.

The only reason I can get my hair this lovely purple is because it's pretty much completely grey. And I don't turn 42 til August.

Of course, I was about one-third grey by the time I was 20...

you are only getting one NOW? You are very lucky! I started getting mine when I was about 20.

I think I got my first around 28 or so. I LOVE them!!! I can't wait for my head to be all salt & pepper! I think grey hair, salt & pepper hair, and white hair, is GORGEOUS!

Hey, I'm younger than you, and I've had them since before I transitioned. It's more of a shiny silver or platinum than a grey, and it's actually kind of pretty; I wouldn't mind if my whole head went to that colour at once, though having a mix looks messy.

You should dye it silver white. It will accelerate the process and may make it look uniform. It would be bold but with it being light you could dye over it very, very easily. I could helps you.

Congratulations! Mine have finally started coming in too; apparently I'm going to have distinguished grey temples like my mother and stripey salt-and-pepper (or salt-and-nutmeg, given my coloring) eyebrows like my father. I was hoping for a streak, but I'll happily settle for this.

I'll give you my sympathy, although I am secretly laughing uproariously! Mine started in my 20's, and I blame both that and the subsequent loss of hair to meeting my future inlaws!

(I find grey hair extremely attractive.)

Mine are all pure white. I started getting them in my late 20's but never that many of them. I'm now 34 if that helps. I forget how old you are.

I found my first white hair when I was studying for my PhD comprehensives - so when I was 30 or 31. My white hairs are a completely different texture from my brown ones, and don't lie in the same direction. It's weird.

I don't actually know how much of my hair is white, because I've been doing the expensive-highlights thing for a couple of years. This doesn't cover up the white, but it makes it less noticeable because there's a whole range of colours from white to gold to auburn to brown - at least, that's the hairdresser theory.

I think I've had grey hairs for more years than I went without them. (I know it's time to go to the hairdresser when they start showing up again through the blond.)

They first started showing up in the oddest place - just behind my ears. Now, if I didn't get it coloured every few months, I'd probably be completely silver (or, as my hairdresser calls it, "Scandinavian blond") at the temples.

Congratulations. :-)

Next, they start growing out of odd spots on your body.

I suppose for me they marked a change in my life where I was... well different. It was something new and not something I could control anyway. I look at it like the leaves turning in autumn, which is the most beautiful part of a tree's cycle IMHO.

My dad was all white by the time he was 50. My mum was white/grey by 45. I still have colour at 50.

Wow. I've had stray white hairs since I was 21, and have enough of them for other people to notice now at 31.
